The MCAA launches a survey on research assessment

by IT Team

The Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) has launched a survey to collect evidence on how research and researchers are assessed within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). MSCA fellows and alumni are invited to complete the survey by 19 October 2025.

Research assessment plays a critical role in shaping careers, funding opportunities, and recognition. Yet, there are growing concerns about how current practices reflect the reality of today’s diverse research community. Questions have been raised about the fairness and relevance of existing assessment frameworks, the recognition of interdisciplinary work, the valuation of non-academic impact, and the extent to which Open Science practices are supported.

The new survey by the MCAA aims to capture these perspectives directly from the MSCA community. It includes questions on:

  • Fellows’ understanding of research assessment

  • How researchers are assessed, selected, and promoted within the MSCA

  • Experiences of assessment during MSCA projects

  • Broader reflections on the research assessment reform

By participating, MSCA fellows and alumni will contribute to an evidence base that can inform more inclusive and forward-looking research assessment policies.

The survey takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete, and is open until 19 October 2025.

To acknowledge participants’ time and insights, the MCAA will draw five complimentary onsite tickets and 15 complimentary online tickets to the next MCAA Annual Conference, organised in spring 2026 (dates to be confirmed).

The MCAA calls on its members, partners, and stakeholders to amplify this initiative by sharing the survey widely. The more voices captured, the stronger the collective case for meaningful reform in research assessment.
